More than half a million for Chester area
More than half a million dollars has been earmarked for recreation investment in the Chester District by the provincial government.
The department of Health Promotion and Protection made the announcement on May 5 at Church Memorial Park (CMP) in Chester.
The biggest investment will be $350,000 for CMP's Eleanor Pew Morris Memorial Rink that will be used to purchase a new electrical system and rink refrigeration unit.
Other investments include $17,000 for Chester District Elementary School, $25,000 for Gold River Western Shore School and $133,820 for New Ross Consolidated School for new playgrounds.
The Chester Church Memorial Park also received an investment of $350,000 for renovations to the ice arena and equipment upgrades.
St. Stephen's Parish Community Centre received a $50,000 investment to build a 3,000-square-foot community centre in Chester. The centre will offer a variety of classes including yoga, dance, and fitness

Escalating fuel costs are forcing tourism operators in southwestern Nova Scotia to focus on the domestic market, says the general manager of Destination Southwest Nova Association.
"We know we are going to get a hit," Madonna Spinazola said in an interview Wednesday when asked if higher fuel prices will reduce the number of American visitors to the province this year.
"There’s no question it’s going to have an impact on the tourism season this year."
